Acupuncture and Fertility

With more and more couples seeking acupuncture and herbal medicine to boost fertility, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is quickly becoming a standard in the treatment of infertility.

This is no surprise to TCM practitioners who have been helping couples conceive for thousands of years. Used together, acupuncture and herbal medicine can increase blood flow to the uterus, regulate hormone levels and the menstrual cycle, balance the body's systems and reduce stress, thus boosting fertility and promoting overall health.

It takes two to tango, and Chinese medical theory applies equally to male and female factor infertility. TCM can address low sperm count, poor motility, morphology, sexual dysfunction and other imbalances leading to reduced male fertility.

Acupuncture and herbal medicine can be used on their own or in conjunction with Western medical fertility treatments. Recent studies have shown that acupuncture greatly boosts a couple's chance of conceiving when used in conjunction with IVF. Some Western fertility clinics have even gone as far as requiring acupuncture treatment before and after IVF embryo transfer.

Acupuncture is a safe, cost effective and non-invasive way to boost your fertility. It is also a great stress reducer and can help to make the baby making process much more fun and relaxed!

Ask the Acupuncturist:

Q: How long will I need to undergo treatment?
A: Fertility treatment typically lasts 3-12 months. This time can, however, vary greatly from couple to couple depending on their individual circumstances.

Q; How often will I need treatment?
A: Acupuncture is generally recommended once a week. Herbs are taken daily.

Q: When should I start treatment?
A: Now! The sooner you start, the better. It takes time to correct the imbalances that have been forming over a lifetime.

Q: Is it ok to undergo acupuncture and herbal medicine treatment in conjunction with IVF, IUI or other Western infertility treatments?
A: Yes. We can provide supportive care at any stage of Western fertility treatment. If possible, however, it is recommended that you start with TCM treatments first.

Q: Can acupuncture help male factor infertility?
A: Absolutely!  Even if you have not been diagnosed with fertility related problems, acupuncture and herbal medicine can be used to correct general imbalances, ultimately boosting male fertility and readiness for conception.

Q: How successful is acupuncture and herbal medicine treatment for fertility?
A: Highly successful! Ariel has helped the vast majority of her fertility patients conceive and go on to deliver healthy and happy babies.
